About Me

I am a professional stone carver and sculptor based outside of Taos, New Mexico. I specialize in hand-carved pieces, incorporating a range of styles and forms; from relief to statuary, contemporary to classical, and realist to abstract. I have worked on public and private projects, including everything from small limestone statuettes to large-scale granite installations.

Stone carving has a wonderful capacity for accommodating nearly any approach, whether it be experimentation and improvisation, or careful modeling and to-spec fabrication. It can be ornate and indulgent, or simple and austere. I like to work all along that spectrum. However, I am particularly drawn to forms of the natural world, such as botanical curves and flourishes, organic geometry, and the human adaptation of those forms in movements such as Art Nouveau and Jugendstil. I find great pleasure and beauty in emulating and stylizing natural forms into ornament, abstract contours, and realist compositions. Stone and the process of chiseling are particularly amenable to those forms; the chisel seemingly seeking line, curve, and hollow. I am also keen on bringing elements of design and illustration into stone work, often finding inspiration from drawings, etchings, typography, symbolism, and iconography.
